I.B.M. making a commitment to next phase of the Internet

Article Abstract:

International Business Machines is commiting to grid technology, a vision that would give people access to supercomputing powers available to all via the Internet. Irving Wladawsky-Berger is leading the initiative as he also leads IBM's support for Linux systems. Grid technology allows for sharing giant application programs and databases, accessed and collaborated-upon by researchers around the world. Grid projects exist in Europe, Britain and in the U.S. with the Globus project but IBM hopes to be the leader in the technology with it's commitment to large investments and high-speed Internet connections.

Can This Man Reprogram Microsoft?

Ray Ozzie was recently hired by Microsoft to revamp its Internet services, making the company more competitive. In October he released "The Internet Services Disruption", a long memo outlining objectives for Microsoft.

New Group Will Promote Grid Computing for Business
