Royal Bank links rates to fund return

Article Abstract:

Royal Bank of Canada is now offering a checking account that pays interest at rates connected to the return on a money market fund. The firm has ventured the market for high-yielding personal deposits, by introducing RateLink Essential, which supposedly costs C$20 per month to maintain and offers a comprehensive line of banking services, including four free bank machine transactions outside the Royal network, and unlimited checks and withdrawals. The new product, which as an introductory offer will guarantee a minimum 5% interest rate on deposits of at least at least C$10,000 until November 16, 1998, is meant for individuals who put their money in several savings and checking accounts, as well as treasury bill accounts, money market funds, and short-term guaranteed investment certificates.
