ID please? Digital wallets are getting another try

Article Abstract:

Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, hoping to spur the further development of the electronic commerce services market, are attempting to revitalize the digital wallet concept. Microsoft's PassPort authentication services are part of the company's .NET My Services package, and are aimed at providing portable authentication and security for online shoppers. With the number of accounts already registering 200 million, the size of Microsoft's centralized database is being questioned by some consumer groups. Sun is taking a variant approach with its Liberty Alliance, which bears a resemblance to a network of automated teller machines in its basic architecture.
