Japan's electronics slump takes a toll on Southeast Asia

Article Abstract:

Japanese electronics companies are cutting production in Southeast Asian factories, as well as at home in response to a worldwide dive in demand for technology products. Also, Japan and other countries are looking toward China as a potential giant for investment and commerce. Japan's own economic woes have hastened the fall of the country's foreign investment to 36% the last decade. Investments in China nearly doubled in that time. Asia's great economic growth staggered in 1995 with the dollar going up and the yen going down and banks in Japan staggered under unwieldy loans.
