Napster investors try new venture

Article Abstract:

AppleSoup, a San Francisco, CA-based startup, will be established on Jul 17, 2000, by Adrian Scott and Bill Bales. Scott and Bales, the CEO of the content-distribution company, are better known as the original investors in Napster. AppleSoup, described by Bales as their 'next-generation answer to Napster,' has created a networking technology that will allow it to act as a middleman between consumers and owners of content such as movies and animated features.

Net rankings vex dot-coms

Article Abstract:

A number of Internet-based companies are expressing frustration regarding the way ratings services gather their statistics on company rankings. In an operation where rankings can mean their continued existence or demise, the dot-coms are expressing concerns over perceived inaccuracies on the reporting of site visitations. These figures are important to Internet companies because they are often cited in order to influence public opinion as well as investors.

Dot-com decline sees no end soon

Article Abstract:

The dot-com decline is deepening and is not likely to hit bottom until 2002. This development means more job cuts and fewer new companies. Signs of further decline is that Internet firms are closing. In May 54 companies closed. The closure of 493 dot-coms adn more than 100,000 Internet-related layoffs since Jan 2000, suppressed national tech job growth to 4.6% in 2000, says a new study from electronics association AeA and the Nasdaq Stock Market.
