Netflix Uses Speed to Fend Off Wal-Mart Challenge

Article Abstract:

Netflix Co.'s innovative online DVD rental service faces a new challenge from Walmart.com that is now competing for movie rental customers. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, one of the rare survivors of the 1990s dot-com bust, continues to create innovative services so that customers can access their DVD rentals easily and return them to Netflix in company postage-paid envelopes. Netflix currently has a base of one million subscribers for its 15,000 films. Wal-Mart will have the advantage of being able to advertise to its base of 100 million weekly shoppers in its stores.
