No way out

Article Abstract:

New South Wales has gained notoriety for its increasingly frequent use of jail terms to punish crimes, including life imprisonment with no chance of parole for a man who masterminded a political assassination. Dangerous driving causing death is now punished with mandatory jail sentences. The number of prisoners in the NSW prison system has risen from 6,500 when the province's current government took office in 1995 to over 7,750 currently, for an imprisonment rate of 172 prisoners per 100,000 people (twice the rate of Victoria).

Old dads, new tricks

Article Abstract:

Older men raising their new children very differently from their first marriage rationalizes that they are at a stage where they are more motivated to demonstrate generosity and contribute to society. Many fathers realize that they would have a large impact on their kids' futures and do not see themselves just as essentially providers but much more.
