The 1980 National Energy Program was blamed for financial difficulties in Alberta's petroleum industry, and the Liberal Party lost some of its popularity. However, the oil and gas industries still support Alberta's economy.

Oil price falls 5% on Saudi vow to raise output

Article Abstract:

On July 4th 2000, crude oil prices dropped 5 per cent after Saudi Arabia announced it would increase production. But experts say that will only reduce gasoline prices down 4 cents a litre.

OPEC poised to boost output, but don't count on quick price relief

Article Abstract:

Calgary, Alb.-based Canadian Energy Research Institute has reported that a proposal to raise output by 2% will likely pass a meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. OPEC is expected to increase output by over 500,000 barrels per day.
