Parrots in a nutshell: The fossil record of Psittaciformes (Aves)

Article Abstract:

Several fossil records of the most commonly found and recognizable group of birds, parrots, also known as Psittaciformes were found and studied to show that they consist of relatively large heads, squat necks and broad, curved bills, which are so different from the other birds. The results highlight the importance of such fossil remains, though the rare availability of them has made the past of an intriguing group of birds a complicated and elusive mystery.

A history of reassessment of the unique but missing specimen of Rawnsley's Bowerbird Ptilonorhynchus rawnsleyi, Diggles 1867, (Aves: Ptilonorhynchidae)

Article Abstract:

The study presents the first comprehensive history and reassessment of the unique, skin specimen of Rawnsley's Bowerbird Ptilonorhynchus rawnsleyi, Diggles 1867, which exhibit traits similar to the two putative parents that otherwise normally arises due to proposed hybridization. The various photographs of such birds taken recently shows that such birds represent an adult male individual of a natural hybridisation between a Regent and Satin Bowerbird.

Fossil penguin (Aves:Sphenisciformes) cranial material from the Eocene of Seymour Island (Antarctica)

Article Abstract:

The study presents the description of the cranial morphology of early penguins by describing a partial penguin skull, as well as additional isolated cranial elements from the Eocene La Mesera Formation of Seymour Island in Antarctica. The exploration of these new specimens has given a new era to the early penguin evolution by analyzing the different characteristics and traits exhibited by them.
