Aerospace win claim not true: Brazil

Article Abstract:

Brazilian prime minister Luiz Felipe Lampreia said that the Canadian government's declaration of victory in the aerospace subsidy war against Brazil as misguided and immature. The World Trade Organization declared that $300-mil-a-year Technology Partnerships Canada and the Canada Account, and Brazil's Pro-Ex financing program, constitute prohibited subsidies for the aerospace to their respective aerospace industries. The subsidy war faced off aircraft maker Bombarider Inc. of Montreal against Embraer S.A. of Brazil.

Embraer sales, profit soaring

Article Abstract:

Embraer S.A. posted record profit and sales in 1998, with $102.9 mil and $1.3 bil respectively. The Brazilian jet manufacturer, which exported $1.2 bil worth of aircraft in 1998, attributed its recor-high profit and sales to cost-cutting measures, increasing number of jet deliveries and sales campaign. Presently, Embraer is delivering 12 aircraft per month to its international customers, compared with seven-jet deliveries at the end of 1998.
