Article Abstract:

Iraq caused an environmental disaster by blowing up 858 Kuwaiti oil wells and by deliberately spilling 250 million gallons of oil into the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War of 1991. It will take about five years for the contaminated waters of the Gulf to pass through the Straits of Hormuz. The burning wells and lakes of oil released hundreds of tons of toxic gases into the air creating acid rain. The US and its allies have demonstrated a lack of interest in cleaning up the pollution caused by the Gulf War. There is a need for international cooperation to respond to environmental terrorism.

Article Abstract:

The Persian Gulf War was a proving ground to test the effectivity of women in the military. Throughout the operation, women distinguished themselves in different combat support situations that were equally dangerous as those held by males in front line positions. Many, including Sec of Defense Dick Cheney, were visibly impressed by the exemplary performance of women during the war. Although no women were actually assigned to combat duty, many of the functions performed by women entailed exposure to the threat of immediate bodily harm by the enemy.

Is $1 billion sufficient payment for the Exxon Corp.'s role in the Exxon Valdez oil spill?

Article Abstract:

There is disagreement on whether Exxon Corp.'s payment of $1 billion is enough to compensate for the damages caused by the Exxon Valdez oil spill to the environment of Alaska. The State of Alaska accepted the $1 billion payment as it wanted to immediately rectify the environmental damage caused by the oil spills. Environmentalists argue that the settlement must include all clean-up costs and that its economic value is questionable because it is payable over 10 years.
