Recession or recovery in 1999?

Article Abstract:

Economic forecasters are projecting a GDP growth of 2% for Canada in 1999, the second consecutive year that the country will post a slower growth. Canada posted a GDP growth of 3.8% in 1997, but only 2.9% is expected in 1998. However, two economists disagree regarding their views. JP Morgan senior economist Ted Carmichael predicts a short recession in the middle of 1999, while University of Toronto economist Steve Murphy forecasts a stronger economic growth in 1999 than in 1998.
