Regional comeback

Article Abstract:

The combined capitalization of the Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia is $US905 mil, not $US500 bil as predicted by stockmarket analysts before the currency turmoil. Asia's currency turmoil is also presenting great opportunities for Australia as its stock market shows no signs of slowing down. Some Australian companies are now worth as much as the Asian stockmarkets.

Hold the phone

Article Abstract:

Many Australians are not supportive of Prime Minister John Howard's plan to complete the privatization of Telstra. As Australians learn more of the risks inherent in stock market investing, support for full privatization is likely to further decline.
