SUV's suspension blamed in Venezuela

Article Abstract:

Ford Explorers are unsafe with any tires, according to documents submitted to the US Congress by Bridgestone/Firestone officials in Venezuela. The tire company offcials were convinced that the accidents aboard the Explorers resulted from a design failure in the suspension system, and not Firestone tires. Officials at the Bridgestone/Firestone office reported that they insisted on Ford modifying part of the sport-utility vehicle's suspension system. Ford installed heavier-duty Australian shock absorbers o Explorers but only for owners who complained of their vehicles being unstable on local roads.

F-150 last in new crash test

Article Abstract:

The Ford F-150, the best-selling vehicle in the world, socred worst in the first-ever crash tests of big pickups. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which conducted the testing, announced that the occupant compartment collapsed and the air bag was late in firing during the testing. However, Ford Motor Co declared that the F-150 is one of the safest vehicles on the road according to real-world crash data and government crash tests.

Ford promises to improve SUV fuel efficiency by 25%

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co announced on July 27 that it will increase the fuel economy of its sport-utility vehicles by 25%. The company said the average fuel economy of its SUV will increase from 18 to 23 miles per gallon in the next five years. The improved fuel economy will be achieved through more efficient transmissions, lighter components, and improvements in aerodynamic styling.
