The Glory Days

Article Abstract:

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was set up in 1947 with the purpose of providing information to control Soviet expansion. It has devoted most of its resources to carrying out covert operations against USSR and its allies. During its long history it has notched up several successes as well as failures. The Agencies reputation has been tarnished by its involvement in the Watergate scandal and in the deal to supply Iranian contras with weapons. Several experts feel that the agency is over politicized and had, therefore, failed to predict the end of communism or the poor state of soviet economy.
