Melbourne's version of Mardi Gras is called Moomba. Its Melbourne International Comedy Festival has become an international event that gets attention from the arts press and gives legitimacy to the comedians who take part. The 1998 festival will include performances by Anthony Morgan, Rod Quantock, Will Anderson and Julian Clary.
