Altimira mutual fund manager Frank Mersch and 39 other fund managers back Manufacturers Life Insurance Company Ltd's bid for the country's largest no-load mutual fund company. But Altimira's founder and chairman Ron Meade and his supporters argue that the bid undervalues Altimira.

Open season: the CRTC clears the way for war in the phone business

The CRTC went further than expected in opening the Canadian telecommunications industry to competition. Competition in local phone service can begin immediately, and phone companies can enter the cable TV market in 1998. Consumers will see an increase in local rates in 1998.

A focused agenda is the most important component of a successful business meeting, and creativity is just as important as structure. To avoid negative reflexive reactions to new ideas, proposals should be offered in a first meeting and examined in detail in later meetings.
