The trouble with being "Hispanic"

Article Abstract:

Hispanic Americans are a diverse group of peoples who hail from countries south of continental America. Contrary to popular belief, Hispanic Americans belong to many diverse and sometimes conflicting cultures, oftentimes with only the Spanish language as a major commonality among them. Being of diverse cultural backgrounds, authorities then fail to identify and act upon problems which would be particular to a specific ethnic sub-group.

Downward mobility

Article Abstract:

Most Americans view Hispanics as impoverished migrants from poor South American countries. Contrary to popular belief, many second generation Hispanic Americans were able to upgrade their socio-economic status and join the ranks of the affluent. In spite of these gains, today's generation of Hispanic Americans seem to lag behind in such important aspects as education and economic welfare.
