Tobin's exit raises hopes about Voisey's

Toronto, Ont.-based Inco Ltd.'s nickel project in Labrador has been given new life after the resignation of Brian Tobin. Government officials are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Inco over the $745 million Labrador mine project and an $820 million hydrometallurgical plant in Newfoundland.

Mining stocks languish

Falconbridge Ltd., Cominco Ltd. and Inco Ltd. have reported declining stock share prices due to investors' concerns over global economic decline. Mining companies, which generally are reporting strong profits, have been hurt by falling metal prices.

Inco raises $200-million (U.S.) in placement

Article Abstract:

Toronto, Ont.-based Inco Ltd., which is a iron producer, has raised $200 million in cash through a private placement. Inco, which sold 20-year zero-coupon notes, placed a mature value of $381.1 million on the notes.
