Uninsured seniors charged more for prescription drugs

Article Abstract:

A study which the White House released on Apr 10, 2000, has found that older Americans who have no insurance for prescription drugs are being charged 15% more than what insurers pay. Thus, people without insurance coverage are five times more likely than those with insurance to report that they did not take a drug they needed in 1999. The report will most certainly be used in the political debate over whether and how to provide drug coverage through the government Medicare program.

No Medicare age, cost hike

Article Abstract:

White House officials announces that US President Clinton will announce a plan on Jun 29, 1999, to prolong the life of the Medicare system to 2025, but no proposals for the increase in premiums for basic coverage as well as in the eligibility age. Furthermore, the government will save money with Clinton's federal health-care program for the elderly because it could eliminate waste and fraud by hospitals and physicians and encourage competition.
