Updated iBook is bound to impress

Apple Computer has traded appearance for simplicity and size in designing its new iBook aimed at new generation of consumers. The updated version is one of the few notebook personal computers to approach notebook size, at around 9 by 11 in, and it has slimmed to 1 1/2 in thick. It weighs just 5 lbs, reducing almost 1 1/2 lbs off the original. All of the new models are equipped with 500MHz G3 processor and a 10 gigabyte hard disk. In its basic version, the user-friendly Apple iBook is priced at $1,299, while the model with DVD/CD-RW carries a price of $1,799.

The latest versions of personal finance software Quicken from Intuit Inc and Money from Microsoft Corp have been improved to eliminate irksome features that have discouraged users in the past. Both software allow 401(K) statements or charges from credit card bills to be downloaded from participating financial institutions. They also collect financial data such as stock quotes and mortgage rates from the Internet. Users will be guided to Web tools that will help them solve their financial problems.

Schwinn puts a spin on the 'Krate' bikes

Article Abstract:

Schwinn Cycling & Fitness is relaunching its classic Apple Krate and Orange Krate bikes. Part of Schwinn's Sting Ray family, the Krates feature banana seats and classic "ape hanger" handlebars. The company will sell the Krates for $350 to $500 in retail stores and will market the bikes in seven cities across the US. Interested buyers can also have the new limited version at over 1,600 independent bicycle dealers nationwide in July 1998.
