Article Abstract:

Many of the estimated 40% or more of families with children that are single parented manage to cope well with the extreme pressures single parenting brings. Several different circumstances can lead to this type of family, such as divorce and separation, widowhood and choosing parenthood without a permanent partner. Several studies have shown that single parenthood is no more likely to produce a juvenile delinquent than normal families. Reluctance to accept single parent families may depend very much on people's perception of simply what a family should look like.
