A painful look at Medicare arithmetic

Article Abstract:

Medicare financing has been steadily reduced since the early 1980s, totaling almost $200 billion in cuts, but Congress in 1995 is proposing another cut that would amount to approximately a one-third reduction over a seven year period. The cut would have a severe economic impact on the elderly.

We're all entitled to reform

Article Abstract:

The 104th Congress will get underway in Jan 1995, following the Republican sweep of the 1994 elections, and one of the issues that may arise is the reduction of entitlements. There are in excess of 400 federal entitlement programs, and each should be considered on its own merit.

Clearing the beltway gridlock

Article Abstract:

The 1992 election brought a new president and 120 new members of Congress to Washington, DC, and there is hope some of the government's long-standing gridlock can begin to be reversed. One of the top priorities the new administration must face is the crisis in health care.
