Banks, building materials, infrastructure and property trusts had expected selling pressures due to the Reserve Bank's rate hike of 25 basis points to 5% in November 2003. It suggested that investors should re-evaluate their portfolios and their exposure to the interest rate-sensitive sectors.

Time to do the splits

According to research house Cannex, leading banks and mortgage originators do not charge a split application fee on loans. It is advised to use mortgage as a financial planning tool as interest rates had hiked.
