Great sex: what's age got to do with it

Article Abstract:

The sexual attitudes and practices of Americans 45 and older were studies in the survey commissioned by the AARP and Modern Maturity. The poll separated adults who have a regular partner from people who do not. The results form a series of closeups of the physical and emotional complexity of sex in this group, rather than one big picture. For instance, approximately half of the 45- through 59-year olds have sex at least once weekly, but in 60- through 74-year-olds, the proportion is only 30% for men and 24% for women.

Sexual pleasure does not decrease with age. People over the age of 50 are less passionate than they were in their 20s, but they may find sex in mid-life to be more satisfying. Sexual dynamics change with age and women may become more assertive. Attitudes towards sex in middle age are discussed.
