Article Abstract:

An investigation and analysis on the collapse of a supermarket roof in Canada was evaluated. Although the execution and the content of the work was praised, various questions were raised. These involved questions regarding the location of the collapse, the compatibility of the roof system with the supporting cantilever construction, the Canadian structural steel design codes and the repercussions faced by the design engineers involved in the project.

Sue Sumii, who died on June 16, 1997 at age 95, championed the rights of an untouchable class in Japan through her writings and speeches. This class, called burakumin, was made up of butchers, leatherworkers and grave diggers, who were banned from society because they touched dead flesh.
