Cystic fibrosis: prospects for therapy
Article Abstract:
The cloning of the gene for cystic fibrosis (CF) as led to a deeper understanding of the disease. Expression of cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator in heterologous, non-expressing cells induces ion channel activity different from CF. Immunohistological studies reveal that the primary problem is caused by mislocalization. The use of the gene therapeutic approach may be the solution towards the cure of the disease.
