Article Abstract:

A brief description on the working of a reversionary pension that automatically transfers on the death of a pensioner to an approved beneficiary, with all the same tax and income flow characteristics is presented. It is observed that making a pension reversionary can have a significant upside in DIY super funds.

The implications of elimination of surcharge on superannuation are discussed. It is advisable to contribute more to do-it-yourself superannuation funds after this provision in the budget as it does away with the tax penalty on surplus contributions.
