A narrow escape
Article Abstract:
Two crew members of the team that explored the underground river Baliem in the Indonesian island Irian Jaya report their experience. The danger of exploring an underground river was compounded because the island has heavy precipitation which can cause the river to flood. People can be trapped because the floods can make the river rise rapidly. Special equipment helped the explorers scout for the river and to film the various underground chambers.
