Back to nature

Article Abstract:

Russia is focusing on protecting Arctic Siberia's remaining unspoilt tundra by designating them nature reserves. The law ensures the protection of the lands from exploitation by poachers and mining companies. It also safeguards the future of the Dolgans and other indigenous groups who live in the area and offers a breeding ground for endangered animals that were driven away from their nesting sites by hunting and extensive human activities. The project is supported by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature and other environmental protection groups.

Playing with nature

Article Abstract:

Computer games, such as Screamer and Grand Prix, increasingly strive to present realistic landscapes to enhance players' level of participation, but these landscapes can also be used to reinforce ideologies. Some games, such as Magic Carpet and Populous, allow players to create fantasy or naturalistic landscapes. These games can reinforce notions of expansionism and encourage players' aggressions.
