Great balls of fire

Article Abstract:

Scientific advances are enabling geologists to learn about volcanism and other important geological processes by studying other bodies in the solar system, indirectly revealing new truths about the Earth. A series of missions run by the US's National Air and Space Administration (NASA) has revealed much about plate tectonics and volcanism on Venus and Mars, while the Galileo spacecraft that achieved orbit around Jupiter in Dec 1995 will explore further the intriguing mysteries of that planet's huge moons.

Last piece of the jigsaw

Article Abstract:

The completion of Britain's National Topographical Database (NTD) by the Office of the Ordnance Survey took 21 years. The large scale project consists of 230,000 maps digitally converted and contains approximately 70 million topographical features. One part of the database, Address-Point, contains cartographic information for every address in the Royal Mail's file. NTD will be offered to the public and should simplify the lives of individuals and companies which need up-to-date cartographic information.
