Desperately seeking Sophie

Article Abstract:

Growers have their reasons for choosing names for their plants. A search for plants with the girls' names Camilla, Sophie and Felicity produced several among the viola family, as well as Anna, Sarah, Laura and Christabel. Camilla was available as a Dianthus. There is an alpine auricula called Primula Camilla, which would need particular surroundings. Rose hybrids include many children's names. Herbaceous perennials and bulbous flowers also have several, but there are few in evergreen shrubs. The most common namesake plant is Diana.
