GERMANY: NEW COATING TECHNOLOGY BY BASF

Article Abstract:

Following tests at Mercedes-Benz in Dresden, BASF Coatings AG is to launch a new car refinish system. Under the title "Reihe 90 Innovation", the German company provides refinishes for metallic, effect and regular paints. Rather than three, the system now consists of merely two components: a basic paint and a tinge. Compared with the predecessor, the new system features faster homogenisation, a 70% reduction of organic solvent emissions, improved storage properties, a material saving of up to 15 and a time saving of about 25%.

GERMANY: ACRYLIC DISPERSION INVESTMENT BY BASF

Article Abstract:

BASF has concluded a DM 200mn investment in acrylic dispersion production in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The new 400,000 dispersion unit partly replaces three existing ones with a combined capacity of 360,000 tpy. Altogether production capacity for acrylate, polyurethane and styrene-butadiene dispersions rises by 120,000 tpy to 800,000 tpy. BASF is hoping to reach full utilisation of the capacity by 2005/2006.
