GERMANY: NOVELTIES FROM FLORENA

Article Abstract:

Waldheim-based company Florena Cosmetic GmbH, which was virtually a monopoly enterprise in former East Germany, has quadrupled turnover to DM 94.1mn since the privatisation in a management buy-out in 1992. In 1998 the company raised sales in Germany by almost 25%. Twenty out of Florena's 250 staff work in research and development. The latest result from the R&D is the men's skin care line that is to be launched in summer 1999. In 1998 the company entered a new market segment by introducing the Suncare line with 7 different products. Recently the company launched Wild River for men. Florena is betting on a favourable price/performance ratio of its products. Florena exports more than one-third of its output to 35 countries.

Accurec: ALD-Dach schafft Basis f r Angebotserweiterungen

Article Abstract:

Accurec GmbH, which recycles annually 1,100 t of nickel-cadmium batteries and lithium cells in M lheim, Germany and generates a turnover of about DM 1.5mn, is to increase recycling capacity to 2,500 t with a new plant, which is to be put into operation in January 1999. Accurec is also looking for a partner among zinc refineries to be able to recycle zinc-carbon batteries and alkali-manganese cells.

GERMANY: ALTANA, GENE ALLIANCE GENOM RESEARCH

Article Abstract:

German Altana AG and Gene Alliance will start a joint genomics research project for decoding the DNA sequence of the Chlamydia pneumoniae bacterium. First results are expected for the first quarter of 1999. Gene Alliance, a joint venture of five leading European for genom analysis, will be represented through GATC of Konstanz.
