Instrumental measurement: light stability of colorants

Article Abstract:

Test results indicate that combining ultraviolet-A (UVA) fluorescent light with colorimetry measurements can provide a fast and reliable way cosmetic pigments' color stability in the presence of sunlight. Initial tests revealed that, for eight of nine highly used pigments, results of the UVA/colorimetry method were comparable to to exposure to sunlight.

The article discusses worldwide cosmetics regulation issues addressed at a conference sponsored by COLPIA-The European Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association, along with other associations. The issues addressed included progress toward harmonization, animal testing in the European Union, and deregulated cosmetics in Japan.
