SWITZERLAND: TIGHTER RULES ON PIG FARMING

After the European Union had threatened to ban the import of meat, milk and cheese from Switzerland, the latter country agreed to tighten rules on pig farming. Switzerland is banning the chloramphenicol antibiotic and a number of other active agents in pig farming, complying with the EU's rules.

GERMANY: NEW R&D UNIT FOR INTERVET

Intervet, a subsidiary of Dutch Akzo Nobel, has bought a 10,000-sq.m research and development centre in Schwabenheim, Germany. The veterinary medicine company will employ 150 staff at the centre.
