The fourth wave: the ethics of corporate downsizing

Article Abstract:

Corporate downsizing has become a normal practice in the business community a a means of increasing profits. Corporate managers reason that their support for company downsizing is rooted in their fiduciary duty to their shareholders that requires them to prioritize their financial interests. However, it is argued that company downsizing is morally unethical to the perspective of the ordinary employees, especially those who were laid off. Hence, it is advised the business managers to examine the ethics of downsizing based on the situation of both its shareholders and workers.

Corporate soulcraft in the age of brutal markets

Article Abstract:

Elmer W. Johnson believes that economic and political arrangements should be judged on the basis of the qualities of character they produce or help sustain. This view can be used as a starting point from which to consider whether and how companies can act as a moral community. Corporate America is now at a watershed, and it is time to revive the power of a committed community of employees led by a new type of corporate manager who is keen to exploit employees' potential for personal growth and team cooperation.
