Community: a work in progress

Article Abstract:

Ian Maitland's article entitled 'Community Lost' provides an analysis of communitarianism. Maitland concludes that the principle is badly misguided since the popular concept of market values has generated major social problems. An analysis of his argument indicates that Maitland focused on communitarianism's libertarian and utilitarian strands and failed to take into account the other facets of communitarianism and the diversity of people's opinions. Thus, Maitland has failed to prove in his critique that there are different spurs in communitarian theory.

Hosmer and the "Why Be Moral?" question

Article Abstract:

A response to La Rue Tone Hosmer's article 'Why Be Moral? A Different Rationale for Managers' is presented. Hosmer contends that managers should behave morally because a behavior that is regarded as "'right' and 'just' and 'fair'" contributes to long-term corporate success. However, Hosmer's argument is insufficient because it does not cover cases such as behaving morally toward non-stakeholders. An attempt to address this deficiency based on virtue ethics perspective is presented.

Aristotle and Posner on corrective justice: the tortoise and the hare

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented on Aristotle's concept of corrective justice, consisting of wrongdoing and harm, and Judge Richard A. Posner's application of the concept to the economic theory of jurisprudence. It is argued that Posner misrepresents corrective justice by collapsing wrongdoing and harm.
