The place of ethics in business: shifting paradigms ?

Article Abstract:

The historical roots and intellectual underpinnings of the two major business society paradigms for exploring the shifting relationship between moral values and business are analyzed. The analysis shows that the business activity in pre-industrialized western society is linked to the society's values of morality for good or for ill. But in the industrialized era, the moral constraints in business practice are removed due to the emergence of efficient markets. These moral unity paradigms and amoral business-society paradigms show the shift in society's values. Post-industrial norms may return to those prevalent in pre-industrial society.

Candor, privacy, and "legal immunity" in business ethics research: an empirical assessment of the randomized response technique (RRT)

Article Abstract:

The use of the randomized response technique (RRT) in business ethics research is studied using two groups of professional auctioneers in Southwest United States as an example. Issues on privacy, deception and confidentiality are eliminated by using RRT. Subjects are considered anonymous and researchers are protected from legal implications of the research. The use of the technique resulted in higher admissions of proscribed behavior.
