Trust and ethics in employee-owned companies

Article Abstract:

Employee-owned corporations face ethical and trust issues that affect their long-term goals. The trust relationship with employees who are also shareholders of a company is crucial in mitigating the harmful effects of the short-term perspectives of some shareholders. The key is to maintain the trust relationship at a high level to enable the employee-owned corporation to develop a clear long-term perspective. Employee-owned corporations are also in a strong position to promote business ethics by aligning their self-interest with public goals.

Trust and contracts: are they mutually exclusive?

Article Abstract:

Trust and contracts are not mutually exclusive from a business perspective. Trust in commercial transactions is shaped by a host of factors, including the nature of the parties, the credibility of outside forces which either or both parties may perceive to exist, the nature of the relationship between the parties and the nature of the transaction. Contracts, like trust, are pragmatic, largely intuitive, circumstantial and not necessarily good or bad. Trust must always be an inherent component of contracts.

What have we learned about trust from recent experiences with teaming and empowerment?

Article Abstract:

Trust plays a significant role in the effective management of work teams and employee empowerment. The key is to display the trust values communicated in the creation of work teams and in empowerment through the design of the remaining organizational processes and sub-systems. Employee empowerment involves the willingness of organizations to trust people and to treat them as business partners. Similarly, organizations need to give work teams access to information as a sign of trust.
