Accidents can happen

Article Abstract:

Issues are discussed regarding the possible effect on Taiwan-China relations of the Democratic Progressive Party victory in Taiwan's last presidential election. US intervention is possible in the event of a conflict, which could be a disaster for the stability and prosperity of the whole region. Mutual tension will increase as China grows stronger.

The upcoming elections in Taiwan will determine whether relations between China and Taiwan remain strained. If the current ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wins again, China will be unhappy. China's opposition is strengthening support for the DPP, which opposes reunification with China.
