Alternative perspectives on international competitiveness

Article Abstract:

Alternative views on international competitiveness have been discussed in order to separate the myths and realities of globalization. Economists who argue that industrialized nations would continue to have surpluses in their trade balances are mainly concerned with the declining role of the US in international competition. However, there are those who believe, such as Krugman, that international competition bears little resemblance to the nation-corporation analogy, but is about mutually beneficial exchange. Krugman believed that comparative and not absolute advantages propel trade among nations.

Left futures

Article Abstract:

Socialism's place as a basic tenet of the left should not be altered because of the failure of communism. This is mainly because, despite its failures, socialism provides the best method af addressing the abuses of capitalism, which is stronger than ever. Reactions of the left to the collapse of communism and possible future theoretical directions are discussed.
