Peruvian peasants confront the mining industry

Article Abstract:

Mining is as old as history in Peru and from colonial times to the present day mining is the main link between this country and the world economy and a process of nationalization began which sought ought to control the most important sectors of the economy. The advance in mining severely undermines the previous environmental, social, economic and cultural balance in the affected areas and it creates conflicts over land ownership with peasant communities and local landowners.

Building the democratic power of the people

Article Abstract:

The movements and uprisings are not defensive as they cannot be reduced entirely to means of pressuring the neo liberal government or lesser authorities and these movements create power on a small scale. They are heralds of the future for the aspirations of democracy in Peru and to especially those of the peasantry who have constituted the most important democratizing force in Peru.

Rise up Hip Hop nation: From deconstructing racial politics to building positive solutions

Article Abstract:

The deep contradictions of Black Hip Hop culture in mainstream White America are discussed and ways to overcome these paradoxes are shown. Community Activism in inner cities is an expression of Hip Hop power and the Hip Hop Action Network has the power to move the crowds and find solutions as a community.
