An alternative view

Article Abstract:

The signing of the Bangkok Declaration in 1993 by East and Southeast Asia nations provided an alternative perspective on human rights. This drew criticisms from Western politicians and human rights activists. Asians are faced with the challenge of transforming their cultures to conform with human rights standards, and exemplifying how this transformation will lead to human rights advocacy. Human rights and democracy are complex issues in different political norms and Asia's interpretation of these ideologies are centered on Asian values.

How far can free government travel?

Article Abstract:

The two components of liberal democracy, evolved to reflect advanced levels of organizations, are demo-protection and demo-power. Demo-protection results in a free people. Demo-power results in self-asserting people, it is the political participation allowed them and used by them, and will vary. The liberal-constitutional element of democracy is universally exportable. It is the people's will and demand that is contingent and culturally dependent.

Understanding pluralism

Article Abstract:

Pluralism became a popular term in politics in the 1960s. It is used to describe many aspects of community within culture, nations and war. Pluralistic communities are made up of tolerant, liberal individuals unlike those in ancient Greece. Members of any community should be obliged to abide by community rules rather than be allowed to change them.
