Come, let us pray! or, modern public administration has failed

Article Abstract:

The field of public administration has failed in its overall mission by turning inward and not using collective expertise to advocate that the society is in trouble. The society lost faith with the early public administrationists who were action-oriented rather than ivory tower-oriented and yet managed to do a fair amount of publishing.

Admitting a bad influence: contracting the public service

Article Abstract:

The practice of contracting-out under the A-76 process is necessary to maintain the effectiveness of public agencies. A second perspective on private sector influence examines, through transaction-cost economics, the promise of cost savings due to contracting-out.

Conclusion: getting it all together

An attempt was made to make a composite analysis of contracts and patterns of the authors' views on the state of public administration. Attention is then shifted to the organizing metaphor itself, that of maturation.
