Critical condition

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the elections that are due to take place in Nigeria in April 2003. Olusegun Obasanjo, the Nigerian President, will be his party's candidate in the elections, which will be the first to be held by a civilian government in Nigeria for 20 years. However, at present the President is facing claims that he has failed to deal with corruption in the country, or effectively manage the economy. Increased ethnic polarization is also expected to play a key part in the voting.
