With Lewis Preston at the helm, whither the World Bank?

Article Abstract:

World Bank Pres Lewis Preston believes that the organization faces interesting challenges some of which are the inclusion of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the organization's roster of members and participation of the bank in the Global Environment Facility. Nonetheless, Preston believes that the bank should focus its efforts on alleviating poverty in developing countries. Under the leadership of Preston, the bank has also shifted to a more integrated approach, giving due consideration to the social impact of development projects.

De-mystifying the Serbian horse

An analogy comparing Serbian Pres Slobodan Milosevic to a Trojan Horse is presented. The role of domestic forces in erecting the Horse and of Western intervention in assuring its endurance are discussed.
