Dealing with destruction: Aceh--A year after the tsunami

Article Abstract:

A year after the tsunami struck Asia in 2004, only ten percent of the 120,000 homes in Aceh were rebuilt and relief and reconstruction was hindered due to lack of coordination and competition between aid organizations. However faster progress was made on transforming the Aceh conflict with the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Indonesian government renewing talks that led to financial resources, which Indonesia desperately required.

Making a tragedy out of a disaster

Article Abstract:

A few days after the tsunami decimated the west coast of the Indonesian province of Aceh, there were hopes that some resolution to the conflict would come up. Indonesia's President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced a historic moment to unite and rebuild Aceh together but hopes are fading as the political considerations are coming up.

A global problem faced by the Post-Cold War world is the use of children in the war zones, which is the result of the dark side of globalisation. The shocking new images are fast becoming norm, despite conventions on children's rights.
