International trade, investment and environmental regulation: an environmental management perspective

Article Abstract:

Trade representatives' fears that effective environmental regulation will adversely affect investment in their countries are not supported by evidence. Conversely, industry practices can have a profound and often detrimental affect on the environment. International environmental regulations often conflict with GATT rules on international trade causing dissatisfaction among environmentalists and businesspeople alike. Environmentalists accuse GATT of advocating disregard for the environment.

An overview of methodological approaches in the analysis of trade and environment

Article Abstract:

The relationship between international trade and environmental policy issues can be analyzed using models such as general trade or general and partial equilibrium models. Environmental externalities, environmental production, imperfect markets, and market structure are factors impacting such analysis. Formal models may be useful in planning coordinated environmental and free trade policies.
