Intra-industry trade in manufactured products between the European Economic Community and the Eastern European countries

Article Abstract:

Intra-industry trade is the simultaneous import and export of a specific class of item such as a manufactured good. When analyzed using the ratios developed by Grubel and Lloyd, the intra-industry trade from 1980 to 1990 between the EC and former members of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance of Eastern Europe, individually and in aggregate, is not adequately described. The effects of trade liberalization by the EC facilitated trade in the absence of any plan coordination in the East.

The impact of the Single Market Programme on trade and foreign direct investment in the European Union

Article Abstract:

The implementation of the Internal Market Programme (IMP) on 1985 and the Single Market Act of 1986 were designed to eliminate barriers to trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the European Union (EU). Statistics on FDI flows to and from the EU to other developed countries are used to determine the actual impact of the IMP. Results show that IMP had a positive effect on inward and outward investment flows in the EU.

The attractiveness of countries to foreign direct investment: implications for the Asia-Pacific region

Article Abstract:

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Asia-Pacific region appears to be attracted by export-oriented countries with low taxes and strong gross domestic product growth after a threshold economy size. Labor market conditions were not a factor in the survey of eight countries, though they did influence the larger, 25-country survey.
